The Target Location, Designation and Hand-off System (TLDHS) is a modular, man-portable equipment suite used by forward observers. TLDHS is designed to provide the ability to quickly acquire targets in nearly all weather conditions, day or night. TLDHS will be the targeting device used by the new GPS-guided XM982 Excalibur shell.
Defense Industry Daily reported in April 2007 that a contract was issued by the Marine Corps Systems Command in Quantico, Va. to Stauder Technologies to develop StrikeLink software as part of an Urgent Universal Need Statement for nearly 500 complete TLDHSs.
TLDHS uses Stauder’s StrikeLink software, giving its operator the ability to determine their exact location along with that of the designated target. StrikeLink then uses secure digital transmission to send the data to nearby supporting arms. The TLDHS and StrikeLink technology provide instant targeting data without transcription time or errors.
