Centaur

Centaur is a handheld device used for field artillery fire direction center operations. It was recently recognized by the Department of Defense (DoD) and the National Defense Industrial Association as a Top 5 DoD program award winner.

According to an article posted on CNNMoney.com, the “Centaur is a handheld, automated technical fire direction system that serves as a backup to the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS) or as the initial occupation system for fire direction solutions. It was designed to support airborne, air assault, and light infantry units, while providing immediate fire direction functionality to rapid deployment forces. Centaur gives the battlefield commander immediate access to artillery prior to the deployment of the AFATDS.”

Centaur supports conventional cannon systems, munitions and procedures, plus the U.S. Marine Corps 120-mm rifled towed mortar.
