M1155A1 Enhanced Portable Inductive Artillery Fuze Setter (EPIAFS)

In a continued effort to enhance the capabilities and accuracy of its artillery, the website Associated Content reports the U.S. Army recently ordered 400 M1155A1 Enhanced Portable Inductive Artillery Fuze Setters (EPIAFS). The EPIAFS replaces the M1155 Portable Inductive Artillery Fuze Setter (PIAFS) on the battlefield by offering the same functionality and features as the PIAFS and expanding its capabilities. The new capabilities include automated fire mission transfer over the inductive link and the ability to initialize the Global Positioning System (GPS) on precision projectiles such as the XM982 Excalibur projectile and the Precision Guided Kit (PGK).

The EPIAFS will be used to set the fuzes on projectiles fired from the M109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzer, M777A2 lightweight towed howitzer and the Non-Line-Of Sight (NLOS) Cannon. The EPIAFS, built by ATK, will be capable of setting all NATO standard inductive fuzes currently in artillery use.
